Crack

Yay! After months of writer’s block, I finally fleshed out a poem. This was inspired by stuff. Enjoy.

Crack

By Jade Theriault

Do you see in shades of gray

Or dull and cloudy sepia?

Is your picture frame alight

Or does it fade to black?

Does the ocean speak to you?

With gentle sandy salutations

Not the way your mother did

That time you made her crack.

What about the animals

Their silence always ringing clear.

Were you raised by loving wolves

Or dogs out in the back?

Be careful when you step inside.

Those filthy feet upon the floor!

Remember what your mother said

That time you made her crack.

Is there anything to salvage

In that slender picture frame?

Can we play just one more game

Before you fade to black?

Cuz when you do (the day I’ll rue)

I’ll knock on Mommy’s door and say

“She was peachy keen until

That time you made her crack!”
